Safeguarding
Youngroots Foundation has a responsibility to prevent harm, respond appropriately to concerns and ensure that participation in our work is as safe and dignified as possible.
Our safeguarding commitment
The safety and best interests of children and young people take priority over publicity, convenience, fundraising or organisational reputation.
Who this applies to
Trustees, staff, volunteers, consultants, partners, service providers, visitors and anyone representing Youngroots Foundation must follow applicable safeguarding rules and the expected code of conduct.
Core standards
- Treat every child with dignity and respect.
- Never exploit, abuse, harass, humiliate or discriminate against a participant.
- Avoid being alone with a child where safeguards and supervision are not in place.
- Do not exchange inappropriate personal messages, images, gifts or contact details.
- Use photography and stories only with appropriate permission and approved procedures.
- Report concerns promptly; do not investigate allegations independently unless authorised and trained.
- Protect confidential information while sharing concerns with those who need to act.
Reporting a concern
Concerns should be reported through the designated safeguarding contact as soon as possible. Where a child is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency or statutory authority without delay.

Roles involving children may require identification, references, screening, interview, safeguarding orientation, signed commitments and supervision. Partners should be assessed and their responsibilities documented before activities begin.
